After three years, our BMWK-funded research project NaiS (Nachhaltige intelligente Sanierungsmaßnahmen, "Sustainable Intelligent Renovation Measures") has come to a successful close, celebrated at the NaiS Summit in the Presidium building of KIT.
Within NaiS, our team from the Digital Service Innovation (DSI) Group at WIN and the KSRI focused on human-centric, explainable, and interactive AI solutions for the digitalization of building documentation, turning hard-to-capture information about existing buildings into structured, reliable, and traceable data. This formed one end of an integrated platform: building on our AI-based information processing, the Institute for Automation and Applied Informatics (IAI) developed the software that integrates these results into a holistic building model, which in turn connects through open interfaces to analysis tools from our project partners CAALA and Concular. Together, the platform helps property owners assess and compare renovation measures across economic, ecological, sociocultural, and technical dimensions.
A particular strength of the project was its clear path into practice: the results are being made available to members through the platform of the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council), and were shaped throughout by our highly engaged practice partners at Ed. Züblin AG / STRABAG. We are especially grateful to the KIT Institute for Technology and Management in Construction (TMB) for their excellent and motivating leadership of the consortium.
NaiS was a winner of the BMWK's GreenTech innovation competition (funding reference 01MN23005B).
