We welcome Maximilian Graf as part of the Digital Platform & Services Group (DPS)

Maximilian graduated from the DHBW Mannheim with a bachelor’s degree in Information System Engineering - Data Science and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) master’s in Information System Engineering. During his Bachelor's he developed data intelligence solutions for controllers and a predictive maintenance tool for train supervision at the Deutsche Bahn AG. This lead to an interest in finding novel ways to extract value from AI systems. As a working student at SAP, Maximilian first helped develop an internal agent framework, before switching to end-to-end automation of (code) issue resolution. In his research, Maximilian will focus on making uncertainty in AI observable and how this can improve Human-AI collaboration.
Get to know Maximilian in three questions:
What got you excited about doing your PhD?
I look forward to the opportunities for personal growth a PhD offers. This applies to research, where I hope to become an expert on the interaction of technology and humans/society, but also to working with students and industry partners.
How do you explain to your grandparents what your research is about?
My research will focus on how humans can better interact with Artificial Intelligence and understand it deeply. One of the first research projects will deal with the questions: What do humans do when an AI application takes a few minutes to answer? What do they focus on instead and how can we keep their focus at the task?
What activities help you switch off after work?
I am a passionate triathlete with the local club in Karlsruhe, the Karlsruher Lemminge. Personally I find it very relaxing to go for a two hour bike ride after work and just let your thoughts flow how they come.
